Additional Veteran Health Care Funds Now Available

Douglas County veterans may now receive mileage reimbursement for health care visits as well as additional funding for health care facilities as a result of new federal legislation.

The mileage reimbursement deductible for veterans was reduced from $15.44 to $6 per round trip and their health care related mileage rate increased from 11 cents to 28 cents per mile.    

An additional $10 million has also been authorized to expand the current Veterans Affairs (VA) Clinic in Colorado Springs to include outpatient surgery, specialty procedures, orthodontics, dental, gastrointestinal services.  The Fort Carson Department of Defense and the VA Clinic staff will collaborate to provide a more seamless transition for those on active duty and veterans.
