Event Collects $5,500 in Donations to Benefit Crime Stoppers

On Nov. 15, Douglas County’s Shred-a-Thon and Electronics Recycling Event collected $5,500 in donations from generous citizens to benefit Crime Stoppers.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office joined the metro Denver Crime Stoppers program earlier this year. This program depends on donations from individuals, businesses and foundations to provide cash awards to callers who provide tips regarding a crime. If the tip leads to an arrest by the police and acceptance of the case by the District Attorney, a cash award may be given to the witness.

The Shred-a-Thon and Electronics Recycling Event was not just an avenue for collecting donations for a worthy cause. It also allowed citizens to bring up to three bags or boxes of paper to be shredded and an unlimited amount of electronic equipment. Approximately 35,000 pounds of paper and 75,000 pounds of electronics were collected from the consistent flow of vehicles that appeared as early as 6:45 a.m. and continued until the event ended at noon.

Thanks to the sponsors and volunteers who helped to make this event successful: Douglas County, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Shred-It, Crime Stoppers, Colorado Community Newspapers, Golden Archives, Techno Rescue, 9News and Cell Phones for Soldiers.
