County Announces SCFD Council Vacancy

District I County Commissioner Jack Hilbert has announced a vacancy on the Douglas County Cultural Council, the statutory board created with the establishment of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) in 1989.

Applicants for this opening must be a resident of County Commissioner District I (Parker and Lone Tree areas) and be willing to serve – effective immediately – through January 2010. The Douglas County Cultural Council is primarily responsible for managing the annual grant process for distribution of Douglas County’s share of the Tier III SCFD funds. Applications for this vacancy must be received by Monday, March 2.

The Commissioner appointee to the Council will serve with eight other Council members whose primary mission is facilitating the development of cultural opportunities in arts, culture, sciences and history in Douglas County.

The Cultural Council typically meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m., and meets more frequently during the SCFD grant application process.

Each of the seven Denver-Metro area SCFD counties has a County Cultural Council, appointed by County Commissioners. The Councils represent the needs and preferences of their local constituents relative to the advancement of arts, culture, sciences and history in their Counties and are accountable to the taxpayers of the District.

An application can be downloaded online at www.douglas.co.us/commissioners/Citizen_Advisory_Boards_and_Commissions.html. For more information on the Cultural Council, please visit www.douglas.co.us/countyadmin/Cultural_Council.html or contact Kim Smith at 303.660.7347.
