Youth Congress 2009
Calling all Youth for Congress
Douglas County youth, ages 13 to 19, have an opportunity to get involved and have their voices heard as youth delegates at the Douglas County Youth Congress 2009 on Saturday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Douglas County Philip S. Miller Building, 100 Third St. in Castle Rock.
The Youth Congress is an annual event providing a forum for youth to interact with elected officials, learn about the process of governing and the formation of policy. Youth will benefit from dynamic speakers, usable knowledge and overall participation in the event.
“Youth Congress is an annual event during which youth delegates interact with their elected officials, learn about the policy process, and ways in which to influence the laws and policies that affect them and their families every day,” said Carla Turner, Youth Services Program Manager. “Dynamic speakers, useable knowledge, and opportunities for follow-up appointments to pursue their policy suggestions, are just some of the takeaways from the day.”
Those interested in participating in Youth Congress 2009 should contact Turner by Friday, April 3 at 303-688-4825 ext. 5327 or at cturner@douglas.co.us. Adults can also contact Turner if they are interested in volunteering to solicit donations, event set-up/tear down, sign-in table and/or policy workgroup co-facilitation.
