Pine Cliff Improvements
Road Improvements Preserve Scenic Thoroughfare
Douglas County has been working with Sedalia residents and DMI Capital, owner of Pine Cliff Ranch, for the past three years on making improvements to Pine Cliff Avenue and Bee Rock Road. Discussions recently resulted in a $70,000 construction project set to begin this spring with minimal impacts to local traffic and wildlife on Pine Cliff Ranch.
Primary construction goals include graveling of Pine Cliff Avenue and Bee Rock Road, providing needed drainage improvements, and reconstructing the sharp curve from Pine Cliff Avenue to Bee Rock Road to allow maintenance and emergency vehicles to safely navigate the corner.
These roads provide a scenic connection through Pine Cliff Ranch, a majestic 3,500-acre ranch, which was placed within a conservation easement in 1999. Both the County and DMI Capital negotiated improvements that would maintain the natural character of the ranch to the greatest extent possible, while providing necessary safety improvements for citizens who use these roadways. In addition, the jointly negotiated proposal provides an improved travel corridor for vehicles, pedestrians and equestrian use, while respecting the existing historic road alignment that was determined as part of the Leach vs. Manhardt case in 1939.
