New Passport Requirements
Passport promotion alerts community to June 1 travel requirement change
Citizens planning a vacation to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or the Caribbean region will be required to have a passport, passport card or other travel document approved by the Department of Homeland Security beginning June 1. To help Douglas County residents comply with this new law and receive a passport in time to travel on the effective date, the Douglas County Recording Division has designated April 20-24 as Passport Week.
Visit the Recording Office at 301 Wilcox St. in Castle Rock, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during Passport Week to get passport photos for only $1 (regularly $8). Other prices include: $75 to apply for a passport for ages 16 and older and $60 for minors under 16; passport cards are $45 for ages 16 and older and $35 for minors under 16. An additional $25 execution fee will be charged for those submitting an application.
Applications typically take approximately four weeks to process depending on the number of applications received. It could take longer if a higher number of applications are received within the same time frame. Passports can be expedited for an additional $60 and those take approximately two to three weeks to process.
A list of locations requiring a passport beginning June 1 can be found online at http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html.
