Free ‘slash’ disposal site opens May 2

In a defensive move to minimize fire hazards, Douglas County announces the May 2nd opening of its ‘slash’ site to help residents dispose of tree branches and shrubbery damaged and downed by recent heavy, wet snow.

“Due to the recent snowstorm, many residents throughout the County – including, The Pinery, Russellville, Pine Valley, Deerfield, Perry Park and Perry Pines subdivisions – lost many trees and now have a considerable amount of work to dispose of those trees and slash material in order to reduce the wildfire potential this summer,” said Randy Teague, Manager, Douglas County Road and Bridge Division.“We are pleased to open this site one month earlier than in normal years,” he said.

The slash/mulch site will be open from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm on May 2 and every Saturday until September 26, 2009, with the exception of July 4, weather permitting . County residents can bring slash to the receiving site at 1400Caprice Drive in Castle Rock.  In case of rain, please call 303.663.6274 to see if the site will be closed on that particular day.

Acceptable items are tree branches and shrubbery with a maximum length of 6 ft. and maximum diameter of 12 inches.  All loads must be covered and tied.  Stumps, roots, lumber, ties, grass, dirt, household trash, appliances and weeds are NOT accepted.  Free ‘slash’ disposal site opens May 2.

Road and Bridge will also provide an equipment operator at the slash site on May 9th and again on May 23rd to load trailers and pickups with mulch from last year’s program. The mulch material and the loading of the material will be free of charge.
