Pulling for Colorado Event Announced at Lamb Spring
Douglas County, Colo… The world-renowned Lamb Spring Archaeological Preserve will host a Pulling for Colorado event on Saturday, July 11. This weed-pulling and mapping exercise will be conducted by the organization Pulling for Colorado who works to educate and raise awareness about invasive species and noxious weeds that damage the rural landscape and native grasses.
Beginning at 8:00 a.m. and concluding at 2:00 p.m., approximately 100 volunteers, working in groups of 10, will survey the Lamb Spring site, pulling some types of noxious weeds and mapping others that should not be pulled, but should be sprayed.
The Lamb Spring Archaeological Preserve Board is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that is working towards developing an interpretive museum and educational facility on the site.
The Lamb Spring Archaeological Preserve Board in partnership with Douglas County and The Archaeological Conservancy host monthly tours on the site beginning at 9:30 a.m. and concluding at approximately 11:30 a.m. Openings are available beginning with the August tour. The tour begins with an introductory video explaining the excavations of the site at the Roxborough Neighborhood Library in the Lockheed Martin Room, 8357 N. Rampart Range Rd., #200 in Littleton. Visitors then drive to the parking area and walk about two blocks to the site where the remains of 24 Columbian mammoth, ancient camel, bison and ground sloth were discovered in 1960 by Charles Lamb who was working to enlarge a natural spring on his cattle ranch.
