In its second year, Douglas County Art Encounters 2009 features an opportunity for the public to vote for their favorite entry in the program, from which will be determined the 2009 Art Encounters People’s Choice Award.
Participants in Vote4art will vote for their favorite art from twelve (12) entries in this year’s program, selected by a jury representing citizens from all participating communities. Artists are from throughout Colorado, including one artist from Douglas County. Vote4art by visiting www.douglas.co.us/artencounters. The People’s Choice Award will be announced on September 18.
Art Encounters is a year-long outdoor art exhibit showcasing sculptures, in various media and styles, displayed in highly visible areas in Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree and Parker. The program is designed to promote public interest in art, stimulate community pride and draw visitors to the retail and civic areas where they are displayed.
The Art Encounters program was launched by the Douglas County Cultural Council (DCCC) who set aside a portion of the County’s Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) funds in 2006 and 2007 to be distributed to Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree and Parker who are in the District. Castle Rock is not in the SCFD. Its funding for this program is coming from their Philip S. Miller Trust fund.
