Sedalia zoning district open house March 11

February 18th, 2010

Public input regarding proposed new zoning districts in Sedalia is being solicited by Douglas County and URS Corporation at an open house on Thursday, March 11 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the West Douglas Firehouse, 4037 Platte Ave. in Sedalia.  A presentation about project progress begins at 6:45 p.m. followed by opportunities for public comment and questions.

The four types of new zoning districts being proposed include:  Community, Downtown, Highway Commercial and Mixed Industrial.  The Community District is generally located in the residential areas a block east and west of Manhart Street; the Downtown District includes the mostly commercial area along Manhart Street and the blocks adjacent to Manhart Street; the Highway Commercial District includes the commercial area immediately off of Highway 85; and the Mixed Industrial District includes the industrial type uses northwest of the community.  All of the zoning districts in Sedalia will allow for a mix of land uses that are more in keeping with the Town’s unique character and representative of the community’s values.

In April 2009, the Sedalia Property Owners’ Coalition (SPOC) was established.  The Coalition consists of Sedalia landowners committed to advocating for implementation of the Sedalia Overlay District Ad Hoc Committee’s (SODAC) recommendations.  Additional background information, SODAC’s specific recommendations, and information about the SPOC can be accessed online at www.douglas.co.us/sedalia
