Household Chemical Roundups Announced for 2010
Tri –County Health Department announces three, drive-through Douglas County Household Chemical Roundups during 2010:
- June 5, Parker Joint Services Center, 17801 East Plaza Drive, Parker. 9am – 3pm.
- August 14, Shea Stadium, 3270 Redstone Park Circle, Highlands Ranch. 9am – 3pm.
- September 11, Town of Castle Rock Utilities, 175 Kellogg Ct., Castle Rock. 9am – 3pm.
Acceptable items are: paint and paint products, motor oil, antifreeze, rechargeable batteries, vehicle batteries, house and garden chemicals, pool chemicals, fluorescent light bulbs, CFLs, fire extinguishers, fireworks, ammunition, items containing mercury, propane tanks, helium tanks, and passenger vehicle and pickup truck tires.
The events are offered free-of-charge to Douglas County residents, however, participants will be asked for a $25 contribution to help offset the high costs of hazardous waste disposal, which can cost more than $100 per household through a private company. Participants will be asked for a driver’s license, water bill, utility bill or phone bill to verify residency.
The Roundups cannot accept waste from businesses, and are not able to accept radioactive waste, smoke detectors, scrap metal, oil drums, asbestos, explosives stronger than fireworks, or any compressed gases other than propane. Additionally, residents with water-based, latex paint products are encouraged to dry the paint at home using absorbent (kitty litter,
sand, dirt), and dispose of the dried paint with regular garbage. This will significantly help lower the Roundup’s disposal costs.
