Community conversations can shape County’s future

May 5th, 2010

What will the future hold for Douglas County’s economic, community, and environmental sustainability? Community conversations – in traditional settings throughout Douglas County and online during May and June – will explore this question and help inform recommendations for sustainable practices, as well as determine creation of future, issue-specific task forces focused on established County Commissioner goals for a sustainable community.

Please visit the County blog at http://blogs.douglas.co.us/sustainability to post ideas and discuss issues with other County residents and representatives from the business community on opportunities and challenges.

Community meetings facilitated by members of the citizen-based and County-staffed Douglas County Sustainability Initiative Advisory Committee (SIAC) will be on May 17, Franktown Fire Station; May 18, West Douglas Firehouse, Sedalia; May 26, Larkspur Elementary; May 27, Highlands Ranch Library; June 2, Parker Library; and June 3, Roxborough Primary School, all from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Two Saturday meetings are scheduled – on May 22, Fox Creek Elementary, Highlands Ranch, from 10 a.m. to noon; and on June 5, Philip S. Miller Library in Castle Rock from 2 to 4 p.m.  All meeting information is available online at www.douglas.co.us/planning/SIAC.

The SIAC is also hoping to recruit passionate community members to stay involved beyond the Community Conversations by joining the Sustainability Initiative Working Group or issue-specific task force.
