Douglas County Cultural Council Opening Announced

Arts, culture, science and history advocates from the Parker or Lone Tree area are invited to apply for a vacancy on the Douglas County Cultural Council, the statutory board created with the establishment of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) in 1989 to manage Douglas County’s share of the annual SCFD funding.

Applicants for this opening must be a resident of County Commissioner District I (Parker and Lone Tree areas) and be willing to serve – effective immediately. Applications for this vacancy must be received by Thursday, July 22.

The Commissioner appointee to the Council will serve with eight other Council members whose primary mission is facilitating the development of cultural opportunities in arts, culture, sciences and history in Douglas County. The Council represents the needs and preferences of their local constituents relative to the advancement of arts, culture, sciences and history in the County.  

The Cultural Council typically meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m., and more frequently during the SCFD grant application process.

Since 1989, Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) has distributed funds from a 1/10 of 1% sales and use tax to cultural facilities throughout the seven-county Denver, Colorado metropolitan area. The funds support cultural facilities whose primary purpose is to enlighten and entertain the public through the production, presentation, exhibition, advancement and preservation of art, music, theatre, dance, zoology, botany, natural history and cultural history.
