2010 Art Encounters® features People’s Choice Award

July 7th, 2010

Now in its third year, Douglas County’s public art program, Art Encounters, will again feature an opportunity for the public to vote for their favorite Art Encounters selection, ultimately determining the 2010 Art Encounters People’s Choice Award which will be revealed in May of 2011.

Participants in Vote4art may vote for their favorite art from fourteen (14) entries in this year’s program, selected by a jury representing citizen leaders from all participating communities.  Find the locations of all 14 entries and Vote4art by visiting  http://www.douglas.co.us/artencounters/vote4art/index.php

Art Encounters is a year-long outdoor art exhibit showcasing sculptures, in various media and styles, displayed in highly visible areas in Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree and Parker.  The program is designed to promote public interest in art, stimulate community pride and draw visitors to the retail and civic areas where they are displayed. The sculptures will be on display until May 2011. Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit each area.

The Art Encounters program was launched by the Douglas County Cultural Council (DCCC) who set aside a portion of the County’s Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) funds in 2006 and 2007 to be distributed to Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree and Parker, communities located in the District. The Town of Castle Rock is not in the SCFD. Program funding for the Town’s participation is through Philip S. Miller Trust funds.
