David A. Weaver - Sheriff

David A. Weaver is a very experienced leader who believes in strong fiscal responsibility, service excellence, integrity, and community partnerships.  He was elected as your Douglas County Sheriff in November 2006, but actually began his outstanding service career at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in 1981.

During his 28-year career, he promoted through the ranks and has served in nearly all areas of administration and operations, including the Detention Division, Patrol Division, Internal Affairs, and as the Undersheriff.  His education is rooted in management, ethics, and criminal justice, he is a Leadership Program of the Rockies graduate, a graduate of the National Sheriff’s Institute, and he is a 2004 honor graduate of the FBI National Academy.

Since being elected, Sheriff Weaver has worked hard to implement new technologies, serve the changing needs of our great community, and to provide the most effective services.  Reinforcing his high standards and fiscal responsibility, he drastically downsized the agencies command and supervisory personnel so there are now more line- level deputies to provide direct services—this alone has saved taxpayers an amazing $2.3 million.

Under his leadership there has been a consistent drop in crime and he has implemented several modern and service-enhancing technologies.  Of special note, Sheriff Weaver built a large-scale Community Safety Volunteer program, which added the talents of dozens of skilled volunteers—all to provide quicker service and information to the community.  To provide better community input and fiscal oversight, he created a unique citizen’s Public Safety Advisory Committee.  Most recently, he implemented the new Internet program CrimeReports.com so citizens can easily get information about crime in their areas and, he created the Text-a-Tip program so high school students can easily and discreetly provide cell phone text message tips about student safety issues.

Above and beyond his Douglas County duties, Sheriff Weaver is very dedicated to community service and helping the law enforcement profession.  A former Parker Rotarian and Castle Rock Kiwanis Club member, he also demonstrates his commitments through service on the Colorado Automobile Theft Prevention Board, Colorado Identity Theft Board, the National Association of Counties Justice & Public Safety Steering Committee, the County Sheriff’s of Colorado Board of Directors and the Douglas County Educational Foundation Board of Directors.   He also helps the National Sheriff’s Association by serving on their Crime Victim’s Advisory Board, NSI Education and Training and Committee for Ethics, Standards, and Accreditation.

Sheriff David Weaver consistently leads with distinction, respect, compassion, and accountability. Simply put, he cares deeply about your public safety, he is dedicated to our community, he offers a strong vision for dependable and inventive services, and he gets immense satisfaction from providing overall service excellence!
