Sharon Jones - Treasurer

Sharon Jones was elected to her first term as Douglas County Treasurer in November 2002, and her second term in November 2006. Sharon began her employment as a bookkeeper in the Douglas County Treasurer’s office in 1977 and within four years was appointed Deputy Treasurer. In 1997, Sharon was promoted to a newly created title of Chief Deputy Treasurer.

“Being Douglas County Treasurer is truly a humbling experience. To serve the citizens of Douglas County and to work with an incredible group of County Elected Officials and employees is a privilege and one of the most rewarding opportunities a person can have,” Jones said.

Now in her 30th year serving Douglas County taxpayers, Sharon has witnessed, first hand, the dramatic growth that has taken place in Douglas County. She says, “Although it has been a challenge in that for many years we were the fastest growing County in the nation, I would not have missed this exciting time for anything.”

Sharon is an active member of Colorado County Treasurer’s Association (CCTA) and was elected to the post of first vice-president in 2006. She also serves on a variety of other committees within the CCTA.

Sharon’s other professional memberships include the following associations: International Association of Clerks, Recorders, Election Officials and Treasurer’s (IACREOT), National Association of Counties (NACo), Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA)and CGFOA. She is a member of the Board of Directors for Colorado Surplus Asset Fund Trust, an original Colorado Local Government Investment Pool. She has served on various County committees and boards during her career and continues to attend numerous County functions to “stay in tune” with all the changes that are occurring.

A third generation native and life-long resident of Colorado, Sharon and her husband Dave, of 37 years, have resided in Douglas County since 1977. “Douglas County had the environment that we wanted to raise our son in and we have never been disappointed in our choice,” said Jones.

In her spare time Sharon enjoys family time, RVing and motorcycling with her husband, the Denver Broncos and Colorado Avalanche, music, reading and the solitude of their home in Franktown.
